What's for Breakfast? or Lunch? or Dinner?

A better question might be what do you have on hand. We have a stigma that certain foods should be eaten at breakfast time or lunch  time or dinner. Food is fuel. When we eat it doesn't really matter. It will all get digested the same way no matter when we eat it.

Will the world end if we have a spinach salad with grilled chicken breast in the morning? Or if we have an egg omelette in the evening?

So when trying to figure out what you should be eating in the morning. Just look at what you have available. You might be out of eggs for breakfast but you might have some leftover chicken breast. It is perfectly acceptable to have that for breakfast.

Teaching Old Dogs New Tricks

Facing a change in your eating habits? Having trouble letting go of old favorites, pizza, cheese, bread? Whether you are entered in the Paleo Challenge or thinking of changing what and how you eat. Letting go of things you have eaten regularly for years, those things you love and hold dear, can be tough and overwhelming. I know as I am a reformed cheese addict.

I love(d) cheese for much of my life. Although I do not remember the first time I had cheese, I am sure it was love at first taste. In fact, I used to think that a day without cheese was a day without sunshine. It was that much a part of me and my eating. My perspective has changed considerably.

For many months I was really intriqued by Paleo and going Paleo. As I read through articles, websites, talked to people eating Paleo, it seemed like there was a lot of talk about feeling more energenic, alert, less bloating, and generally feeling awesome.  This all sounded great, after all who doesn't want those things.....but no dairy...really. Cavemen didn't milk cows and make cheese?  I felt pretty good already, at 42 I am in the best shape of my life. Little did I know, my normal was not really normal.

Along came the Whole 9 Life workshop and the Whole 30. I went 30 days eliminating sugar, grains, alcohol, dairy, artificial and natural sweetners, etc.  A funny thing happened, I felt better than my original normal. Way more energy, no cravings, crushing WOD's. Gone was bloating, gas, and lethargy. Little did I know that those things, that I felt were possibly the normal process of digestion were really not normal at all. In fact bloating and gas really are unnecessary, if you are putting the proper fuel into your body.

And my tastes have expanded. There are many vegetables that I just passed by or ignored as I didn't know what they were. I have expanded my taste buds and my palate.

Now I have re introduced some of these old favorites, just because they are old favorites. And I have to say, it is not worth it. Now I can see just how these foods affect me. Much stomach acid, stomach aches, gas, bloating and general lethargy are all present when I partake. It just isn't worth it.

Along the way, I have been able to do something that I have never been able to accomplish in my adult life.....maintain under 180 for body weight. I now consistently stay between 172 and 177. This was a virtual impossiblity for much of my adult life. My weight always seemed to want to settle between 182 and 187, I thought that was my destiny.

So if you are thinking that this is something you don't think you can do as you might be set in your ways. Give it a try and just see how you feel.
